University police arrested a student early Tuesday morning on suspicion of drunken driving after an officer saw him speeding, police reports stated.

Seth Edward Merritt, 22, was pulled over at 1:10 a.m. on the northeast corner of East Sixth Street and North Campbell Avenue for driving 47 mph in a 30 mph zone, reports stated.

Merritt told police he consumed "two to three 20-ounce beers" in a half- hour. He also said he left his friend's house on North First Street and East Grant Road, reports stated.

Merritt admitted to police he was involved in a DUI when he was 18, reports stated.

The officer stated in his report, "Merritt gave me a glassy stare as he spoke to me," and "Merritt would start talking at a normal tone and then slowly get quieter," reports stated.

The student agreed to take field sobriety tests. Merritt's blood alcohol level read .141 but minutes later it showed .153, reports stated.

Police took Merritt to UAPD headquarters and was later released.

As Merritt was leaving headquarters in a cab, he "gave me (the officer) an obscene gesture and mouthed 'fuck you' to me," reports stated.


A student called police Tuesday evening to report his cellular phone stolen.

The student told police he set his phone down "outside the (Memorial Student) Union" near the south doors on Monday at 7:45 p.m.

When the student noticed his cell phone missing, he used another telephone and dialed the cellular's number. A man answered the student's cell phone and agreed to meet him and return it on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd.

The student told police the man did not show up. He said there was nothing "noteworthy" about the man's voice, reports stated.


Police verbally warned a Tucson juvenile about skateboarding on UA property Tuesday afternoon after the officer saw the boy "doing jumps and tricks," reports stated.

The officer saw the boy at 5:51 p.m. on the southwest corner of the Arizona Stadium, 540 N. Vine Ave., reports stated.

The boy was reportedly skating on a brick and concrete ledge, reports stated.

The boy told the officer he did not know he was on UA property.

The officer warned the boy about skating on campus and released him, reports stated.


A custodial employee called police Tuesday morning after he found a broken window in McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive, police reports stated.

The worker told police he found the shattered glass door panel at 5:07 a.m. on the northeast side of the building, reports stated.

The employee did not know what time the vandalism occurred.

Police found no damage inside the room and nothing appeared to be missing, reports stated.


A Tucson man called police Tuesday morning after he noticed someone had "walked" on his car, police reports stated.

The man told police he parked his green Honda Accord "on the grass area" behind McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

He said he noticed a dent on the hood of his car and he believed someone had "walked on his car from the front hood to the rear of the car," reports stated.
