University police arrested a student Friday morning on suspicion of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession after a resident assistant smelled what he believed to be burning marijuana, police reports stated.

The RA, from Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall, 1000 N. Park Ave., told police he was conducting a check of the second floor when he smelled the suspected marijuana, reports stated.

Officers went to the dorm at 12:25 p.m. and knocked on three doors before allegedly finding the source of the smell in Jeremiah L. Roach's room, reports stated.

Police entered Roach's room and spotted, "in plain view," a bag containing a green leafy substance on a pull-out desk shelf, reports stated.

An officer picked up the bag and asked Roach what was in it, to which he replied, "Probably marijuana," reports stated.

Police then asked him where the rest of the suspected marijuana was, and he stated, "probably smoked," reports stated.

Roach, 19, told police the pipe he used to smoke the suspected marijuana was on his bed under a blanket, reports stated.

Police seized the two items and searched Roach's room. No other drugs or paraphernalia were found in his room.

Roach was cited and released.

A student called police Saturday morning after he spotted a man inside his car, police reports stated.

The Arizona-Sonora dorm resident told police he glanced out his seventh-floor window at 1:40 a.m. and spotted a man inside his 1992 silver and black Honda Civic with the hatchback door open, reports stated.

The student told police an older-model maroon Honda was parked next to his car, reports stated. The student reportedly ran down to the parking lot and saw the man crawl out of the student's silver and black Civic.

The man then allegedly ran south from the parking lot, reports stated.

The student saw his speaker in the maroon Honda as its driver reportedly sped out of the lot at a high rate of speed, reports stated.

The maroon Honda's driver fled south on North Park Avenue and then west on East Sixth Street.

When police arrived, they found the Civic's driver side window broken, a large rock on the floor of the car, a white Polo shirt with the Fry's grocery store logo on it and a Fry's name tag with the name "Shawn" on it, reports stated.

The shirt was laying on the driver's seat over the broken glass.

A speaker, speaker box and other car accessories were stolen from the student's car.

Officers obtained fingerprints and are investigating.

Three students, living in the same dorm, were victims of a tire-slashing spree this weekend, police reports stated.

Each student filed a separate police report but the slashings occurred in the same parking lot located on the south side of Arizona-Sonora residence hall, 910 E. Fifth St., reports stated.

One student, who owns a 1991 blue Chevrolet Corsica, reported the vandalism Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

He told police he parked his car in the lot at 9:45 p.m. Friday and returned to his vehicle at 11:30 a.m. to discover the right rear tire punctured.

Police examined the tire and believed it was vandalized with a knife, reports stated.

The second student said she parked her 1990 gold Chevrolet truck in the same lot at 10 a.m. Friday and found the left rear and front tires slashed at 10 a.m. Saturday, reports stated.

The third student told police he parked his blue Mitsubishi truck in the lot at 2 a.m. Saturday morning and found his vehicle's right rear tire slashed at 10 a.m. that same day, reports stated.

Police reports did not indicate whether there would be further investigation.

An employee called police Saturday afternoon after spotting a "suspicious" woman inside a locked lab room in the Shantz building, 1700 E. South Campus Drive, police reports stated.

The staff member told police he entered the room at 1 p.m. and saw the woman inside the lab, using a phone. He said she appeared "startled" when he entered the room, reports stated.

The employee told police he noticed a computer programming unit with a UA sticker on it in a plastic tub by the door. He also saw a cardboard box with a drill, syringes and glass beakers on the floor, reports stated.

The staff member told police seeing all the items together in one box was unusual because they are left in specific places around the lab.

He said he left the room and told another employee about the woman. When he returned, she was gone and the phone she used was ringing, reports stated.

The employee said he picked up the phone and a man asked for someone by the name of "Corey." The man said she paged him, reports stated.

The man refused to give the employee his name and hung up.

No items were missing from the room, but police noticed a locked door on the east side of the building was not opening properly, reports stated.

In the report, the officer wrote, "It is possible the suspicious woman was a thief who needed syringes," reports stated.
