After four minors were arrested on suspicion of underage drinking Tuesday evening after leaving the Delissimo restaurant, 749 N. Park Ave., university police decided to check out two other UA area bars Wednesday afternoon.

According to University of Arizona Police Department reports, officers went to Gentle Ben's, 841 E. University Blvd., then went straight to Frog & Firkin, 874 E. University, to conduct liquor inspections.

Police hit Gentle Ben's first at 3 p.m. They checked the bar's identification log and liquor license, and found no violations.

Officers then went to Frog & Firkin at 4 p.m. and conducted the same search. No violations were found.


A Tucson man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police saw him on campus with a shopping cart full of mattresses.

Roy Nelson Matthews, 28, of a general delivery address, was seen by police at 11:34 a.m. on the north side of La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., pushing a shopping cart with four mattresses, police reports stated.

Matthews told police he had gotten the mattresses in the area of Speedway Boulevard and Alvernon Way.

After running Matthews' name and birth date through records, officers found an outstanding warrant for criminal trespassing.

Matthews was taken to Pima County Jail where he was booked, reports stated.


University police arrested a man for a drunken driving warrant Wednesday afternoon after spotting expired registration tags on his car.

According to police reports, Gregory A. Parish, 25, of the 3500 block of Nugget Canyon Place, was driving a brown 1982 Datsun at the intersection of North Park Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard when officers saw the expired tags on his car.

Police then followed the car east on East Speedway. Parish made a U-turn at North Mountain Avenue and began driving west on Speedway.

Parish pulled his car into the parking lot of the 7 Eleven on the corner of Speedway and Park.

Officers checked his identification and discovered a warrant for drunken driving from Maricopa County. Parish also had a suspended driver's license, reports stated.

Parish was then taken to Pima County Jail and booked.


An employee of the Park Student Union, 615 N. Park Ave., reported a fire on the loading dock of the building Wednesday evening, police reports stated.

The man told police he had smelled smoke coming from the outside of the building.

According to reports, officers arrived at 5:44 p.m. and attempted to quench the 4-foot-high flames with a fire extinguisher, but were unsuccessful. The Tucson Fire Department arrived a few minutes later and extinguished the flames.

According to reports, the fire originated in a trash can filled with old phone books.

The wall and double doors near the loading dock were burned and had smoke damage. There also was melted plastic on the wall.

Everyone in the building was evacuated and had to stay outside for 30 minutes, reports stated.


A female student reported $105 stolen out of her wallet Wednesday evening.

The student told police she was in the Ina E. Gittings Building, 1713 E. University Blvd., between 11 and 11:30 a.m. The student left her wallet in her gym bag and walked out of the unlocked room at 11 a.m., police reports stated.

When she returned at 11:30, her wallet was still there - without the $105.

The student told police she didn't see anyone in the area.


Police went to a UA parking lot on the corner of East Seventh Street and North Highland Avenue Wednesday evening after a student reported a hit and run.

According to reports, the student parked his car in the lot at 7 p.m. and returned to his truck at 8:28 p.m.

He drove over to the Circle-K at East Sixth Street and North Cherry Avenue. As he was getting out of his truck, he noticed a large dent on the fender near the lower rear passenger side, reports stated.

The student told police he left the convenience store and drove back to the parking lot to try and find some evidence, but he was unable to locate any. Police also were unable to locate any evidence other than the dent.
