With "miscommunication" being claimed as the cause for everything from bad political action to the breakup of your recent relationship, it seems that a close look at language may be in order. Whether you say "tomato" or "tomahto," don't call the whole thing off just yet - come hear what Paul Bloom has to say first. As part of the SLAT Colloquium, he will speak on the subject of "Bodies and Souls: How People Learn the Meanings of Words" today from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Room 413 of the Modern Languages building. Call Iris Rink at 621-7391 for the specifics.

Whose battle cry is, "Billions and billions and billions?" That's right, kids - it's Carl Sagan! The UA Department of Physics is paying tribute to this amazing scientist guy this morning from 11 a.m. to noon (as they do every Friday) by showing sequential parts of Big Carl's "Cosmos." Take a seat in Room 201 of the Physics and Atmospheric Sciences building to join in on some stargazing fun. Contact Larry Hoffman at 621-6826 for more information.

Score one for arbitrarily selected circumstances! Chuck Newman, of the Courant Institute of NYU, will give you the play-by-play on "Euclidean First-Passage Percolation: Geodesics in a Random Medium" today as his contribution to the Program in Applied Mathematics Colloquium. Take your built-in mental calculator to Room 501 of the Mathematics building this afternoon at 4 and enjoy. Give Kathleen Leick a call at 621-2016 if you have further questions.

It's Friday night - where else would you be but on campus? Not at the library, perhaps, but maybe at Gallagher Theatre. The University Activities Board's Eye on Diversity Committee's Foreign Films Cycle makes its final gyration tonight. Catch "Shall We Dance?" for free, but remember to mentally thank the Minority Action Council and the Bank of America. They paid for part of your ticket, you know. Blacklisted ballroom dancing abounds in clandestine Japanese studios tonight at 7:30. Get in touch with Harminder Singh at 621-0760 for more information.
