Interested in getting a life beyond academia? Come out to the Student Organization Fair on the Mall today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Representatives will be there to answer your questions. At the risk of sounding like a camp counselor, what is a student organization without students?

Hmmm, what can I do for free on campus today - besides study? (Actually, that's not exactly gratuitous if you think about it.) I know! I can Eat to the Beat! The friendly University Activities Board is once again supplying the ambiance for your hour-long lunch break today on the Mall from noon until 1 p.m. Lounge on the lawn and let Joe Rush help you chill out.

And now, for the event you've all been waiting for: CatFest!!! ASUA, the Residence Hall Association, Greek Life Programs and the University Activities Board are bringing you an evening of fun and music. All the good stuff begins at 6 p.m. on the Mall and lasts until 11 p.m. The UA Marching Band will be competing with various clubs. UA Cheerleaders have practiced their tumbling acts. And a fashion show featuring gorgeous models struttin' their stuff in GAP clothing is scheduled. Blink 182 will be appearing with Assorted Jellybeans and River Fenix, and live disc jockeys from KAMP Student Radio will be spinning your favorite grooves in between sets. How could you possibly stay home?

Molly Ringwald, the ubiquitous '80s icon of teenage melodrama, graces the screen of Gallagher Theatre tonight in "Sixteen Candles." Heartbreak, underwear, foreign exchange students and a pubescent Anthony Michael Hall beckon you to shell out $2.50 for perhaps the last (or first) glimpse you shall catch of them together on the big screen. This is the first midnight movie of the semester - I urge you to arrive early and make it a tradition.

If your idea of a relaxing Friday night doesn't involve being on campus, you can still get your musical fill at Club Congress (311 E. Congress St.). Trunk Federation, Crumb, Les Payne Product and Haggis will be rarin' to go when the doors open at 9 p.m. It'll cost ya $4, but less people and a full bar might be a bit more appealing than a dry campus and a couple thousand screaming students. Take your pick.

"Landscape Photography," an exhibit by Jonathan Kaplan, premieres Saturday night at the Hillel Foundation (1245 E. Second St.). Amble on over to the Oy Vey Cafe at 8 p.m. for free music, free dessert, and the opportunity to view pictures from Mexico, Israel, San Francisco, and Boston. The event is open to everyone and will run through Sept. 17. Contact Hillel Foundation at 624-6561 for gallery hours.

There is a tropical paradise awaiting you in sweltering downtown Tucson Sunday night at Club Congress. Doors open at 9 p.m. for Havana, the weekly Latin dance set that's sure to make you want to shake your fruit salad like Carmen Miranda. Finish off your frenzied weekend with DJs Tasha, Howie and Rosemary - if, of course, you are of age.
