A UA employee told university police that "hundreds or thousands of man hours" were wasted Sunday when a Ohio resident hacked into his computer at the School of Library Science, 1515 E. First St.

He was able to print out a system log and found that many personal and professional files and other system features were altered or deleted, apparently by a hacker using an Akron, Ohio, Internet Provider address. He then he called police. The system breach was made between 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, reports stated.

The hacker also renamed two of his system folders using racial slogans and profanity, reports stated.

University police arrested a Tucson man for several offenses after spotting him asleep inside the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd.

Two officers checking the building encountered a man, recognized by one of the officers as James A. Embree, 52, of the 9300 block of North Camino Del Fierro, snoozing on a couch on the library's third floor, police reports stated.

A check indicated Embree had a warrant from the Pima County Sheriff's Office for failure to complete court-ordered treatment for a disorderly conduct charge, reports stated.

As the suspect stood up to put his shoes on, an officer saw him stash something in his sock, reports stated.

A search revealed a plastic bag containing 12.4 grams of a substance suspected to be marijuana. Embree was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, criminal trespassing and the warrant, and was then taken to the Pima County Jail.

At 1:15 a.m., two officers responded to a back-up call for an unspecified traffic stop, spoke to the driver of a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder and discovered a faint alcoholic odor in the vehicle, police reports stated.

The driver, identified as Candis R. Curtis, 18, a resident of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house, told police she had "a couple of drinks - but that was awhile ago," reports stated.

Police arrested Curtis and her passenger, Ramsey L. Hannon, 18, of La Paz Residence Hall, on suspicion of minors possessing alcohol and then drove them to their respective residences. Officers then parked the vehicle on East Santa Rita Street near Sixth Street.

An officer went to the dorm because of a fire alarm activated on the east wing's third floor at 1:15 a.m., but was told it was a prank, police reports stated.

A resident assistant told the officer a new video system possibly recorded whoever activated the device, and that she will need to review the videotape with a representative of the camera's manufacturer, as it will be the first time the system will be used, reports stated.

Police are leaving the case active pending investigation results.
