University police arrested three Tucson men early Saturday morning on suspicion of underage drinking after they were caught with bottles of brandy and rum.
An officer near East Eighth Street and North Tyndall Avenue was flagged down about 1:28 a.m by a man who reported loud voices and breaking glass in the next block, according to police reports.
When the officer investigated, he heard the racket and saw a man leaning into the driver's side window of a red Nissan Sentra, reports stated.
The officer stopped the man, Mario Sepulvida, 19, as he tried to walk away. Sepulvida, of the 100 block of North Tyndall Avenue, told police he was "saying good-bye to his friends," reports stated.
The officer saw two men in the car, and noticed one of them cowering in the passenger seat, staring at the officer, reports stated.
The officer told the men to exit the car and asked the passenger, Esequiel C. Baltierrez, 18, of the 3100 block of North Wilson Avenue, why he was hiding. Baltierrez denied hiding and told the officer he was sleeping and that there were no drugs or weapons in the car, reports stated.
While the officer was talking to the driver of the Nissan, Javier C. Oros, 18, of the 2000 block of East Fort Lowell Road, the officer noticed a clear glass pipe sitting on the dashboard of the car, reports stated.
Police showed the pipe to Oros and then asked him again if there were any drugs in the car, to which he replied, "yeah," reports stated.
The officer asked Oros where the drugs were located and he told police, "Find it yourself. You're going to look anyway," reports stated.
Officers searched the car and found a bag of what they suspected was marijuana under the passenger seat, reports stated. The officers also found a bottle of brandy and a bottle of rum, "roaches" in the ashtray and rolling papers, reports stated.
Police cited Sepulvida on suspicion of underage alcohol possession after he admitted to drinking. Oros was cited on suspicion of possession of marijuana, underage alcohol possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Baltierrez was cited on suspicion of underage alcohol possession and giving false information to law enforcement officials.
All three men were released at the scene.
