Even with the baffling amount of information available on the Net these days, some professors (even some UA professors) are wary of allowing students to use this research as a primary source in writing. Find out why they may be right (or wrong) this afternoon at the Speakers' Series session in room 310 of the Modern Languages building. Ann Lally will be the moderator of a panel of instructors and students who will discuss "Writing, Research and the Web." Learn the pitfalls, advantages and strategies for effectively using the World Wide Web from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The discussion is sponsored by the Composition Program, Department of English and the University of Arizona Library. Give Louise Greenfield a call at 621-9919 for details.

Jimmy hats. Gloves. Rubbers. Unless you've had absolutely no street education about sex, you should recognize these terms as euphemisms for the good ol' condom. Today begins the UA's recognition of National Condom Week, a series of events sponsored by Campus Health to try to knock that same street knowledge out of your head and replace it with truth. 'Bout time, for some of us. Educational brochures and free (Yes! Free!) condoms will be available on the Mall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Arm yourself with facts and prophylactics before it's too late. Contact Lee Ann Hamilton at 621-4967 for more information.

Though it may seem sometimes that we students are mere numbers in the swarming masses of people on this campus, our faculty actually does want you to feel at home. That's why the UA Faculty Fellows and the American Council on Education set up a weekly Speaker Series entitled Building Academic Community. Start getting cozy with our academic illuminati this afternoon from 12:15 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. David Yetman (assistant research social scientist, Southwest Center) will be eagerly awaiting your company in Gallagher Theatre as he describes "The Guarijio People of Sonora and Chihuahua." Sue Robison can give you some background information on this speaker if you call her at 621-4700.

Sometimes a story doesn't seem real until you meet one of the persons involved. This in mind, the Hillel foundation is continuing their Conference on the Holocaust today with a Special Discussion. Monique Steinberg Busby, an interviewer for Steven Speilberg's Shoah Foundation, will lead the "Listening to the Past" discussion in the Senior Ballroom of the Student Union. In addition to moderating your conversation, she will talk one-on-one with a Holocaust survivor from right here in Tucson at 7 p.m. Got questions? Call 624-6561 for answers.

Need some inspiration for that creative writing assignment you've been working on? Then come to the Modern Languages Auditorium tonight at 8 p.m. and meet your muse. Junot Diaz, celebrated short story writer, will be sharing his unique talent with you as part of the Spring 1999 Visiting Poets and Writers Reading Series. Wanna know more about him? Contact the Poetry Center at 321-7760.
