A university employee called police Monday morning after he noticed three missing items from the Arizona State Museum gift shop, police reports stated.

The employee told police a $135 Navajo bolo tie made of silver and turquoise, a $150 Hopi Bear Kachina doll and a Tohono O'odham basket worth $265 were all stolen from the museum, 1013 E. University Blvd.

The employee told officers the theft occurred sometime between 1 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Sunday, reports stated.

The worker also told police "due to the delicate state of the doll, it would be very difficult to shoplift the item without destroying it," reports stated.

The stolen tie's price tag had been switched with another, cheaper item, reports stated.

The employee told police four student employees worked at the shop during the time of the theft. He said he believed, one of the students "may have taken" the items because of the price tag switch, reports stated.

UAPD detectives will be following up on the case.

A student called police Monday afternoon after a man allegedly got out of a car and assaulted her, police reports stated.

The student told police she was walking with friends near the Sigma Chi Fraternity house, 1616 E. First St., at 1:30 a.m.

As the group reportedly crossed the house's driveway, a black Isuzu jeep entered the driveway. The student told police a man in the passenger seat began screaming obscenities at the group and then jumped out of the car, reports stated.

The student told police the man pushed her, causing her to hit her head and scrape her elbows on the ground, reports stated. The man then reportedly jumped on her, but the student's friends pushed him off, reports stated.

The student told police the man got back into the car and the driver, a woman, drove west on East First Street and then turned south on North Cherry Avenue. The student noticed a "Arnnett" sticker on the back of the Isuzu but was unable to get the license plate number, reports stated.

One of the students in the group told police she saw the same Isuzu pull up to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, 1509 E. Second St., later that night.

She said the man who had "assaulted" her friend was driving the car and the woman driver was gone, reports stated.

The injured student told officers she "might go to Student Health or her doctor," reports stated.

Police went to SAE and spoke with a member who owns a black Nissan Pathfinder with a "Arnnett" sticker on the back.

The member told police he heard about the incident, but said he was not involved, reports stated.

He told police he had not been home when the alleged assault occurred, and he had his car keys with him. He said no one used his car.

No one was arrested.

Police arrested a student Monday evening after he struck a pedestrian while driving, police reports stated.

Thai Van Do, 22, was driving north on North Cherry Avenue at 6:35 p.m. when he hit a 78-year-old Tucson woman, reports stated.

Do slowed for the woman crossing at East First Street, but was unable to stop his white Nissan because of water on the road, reports stated.

The woman fell on top of the student's car, denting the hood with her elbow and then landing on the ground, reports stated.

The woman told police she had a "stinging" pain in her hip and right hand, reports stated.

Tucson Fire Department medics came to the scene and examined the woman, but she refused treatment. She told police she had to go to "a play," reports stated.

Do, of the 2300 block of West Las Lomitas Road, was cited on suspicion of failure to control speed and released.

Police arrested a male student Monday morning on suspicion of driving with a suspended license after he was seen running a stop sign.

Joseph P. McCaffrey, 21, was driving east on East Ring Road at 5:57 a.m. when he failed to stop at the intersection of Ring and North Warren Avenue, police reports stated.

The officer discovered McCaffrey's drivers license was suspended and he had a warrant for failure to appear in court on charges of criminal damage.

McCaffrey, of the 1400 block of North Vine Avenue, was taken to Pima County Jail and booked. His bail was set at $750, reports stated.
