Men's swimming and diving place 4th at Pac-10s

The Arizona men's swimming and diving team finished fourth this weekend at the 2001 Pacific 10 Conference Championships held in Long Beach, Calif.

Stanford won its 20th consecutive Pac-10 title, posting a team score of 844.5. The Cardinal were followed by Southern California, who finished with a total team score of 722.5.

California placed third, while the No. 7 Wildcats placed fourth with a total team score of 538.

Individually, UA senior Tyler Painter placed third in the 1650-yard freestyle.

Wildcat senior Ben Anderson made the NCAA cut for the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:45.32.

In the finals of the event, Anderson finished fourth with a time of 1:45.72.

Behind Anderson, UA freshman Juan Veloz finished the event fifth with a time of 1:45.79.

UA freshman Greg Owen placed sixth in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:00.54.

The Wildcats will travel to College Station, Texas, to participate in the 2001 NCAA Championships on March 22.
