Gymcats split 2 meets

The No. 22 UA gymnastics team went 1-1 during its spring break meets, defeating North Carolina State Wednesday after falling to No. 15 Minnesota March 10.

The Wildcats (5-15) set a new school record on the bars against the Wolfpack, racking up 49.475 points. Arizona went on to win the meet, 195.125 to 194.350.

Junior Kara Fry led the individual effort for Arizona by capturing her fourth all-around title of the season. Fry also won the vault and bars title, while placing second on the floor and third on the beam.

Senior Heather Straccia won the floor event with a career-high 9.925.

Earlier in the week, the Wildcats traveled to Minnesota and were defeated 196.850 to 194.675 by the Golden Gophers. Fry tied for first on the bars and finished second in the all-around, while sophomore Nikki Beyschau tied for first place on the vault.

The Wildcats head to Seattle this weekend for the Pacific 10 Conference Championships.
