Account set up for 4th Ave. arson victims

Campus community members wishing to help the Martinez family, whose recreational vehicle and car were destroyed by arson during Monday night's riots, may donate to a fund set up for the family at any Bank of America branch.

Checks, cashier's checks and money orders (no cash or credit card donations) may also be sent to or dropped off at University Advancement, P.O. Box 210066, Administration 116; AHSC Public Affairs Office, Comstock House, 1451 N. Warren Ave.; or the Community Relations Office, USB, Room 414 F.

Make checks payable to Joe G. Martinez Account #004675613491. The university will collect contributions through April 16.

Joe and Doreen Martinez sold hot dogs out of the RV along North Fourth Avenue to supplement their income. Three of the Martinez's nine children, including a 7-month-old girl, took cover with their parents in the also-burning Hut bar, 305 N. Herbert Ave., while their vehicles were engulfed in flames in the parking lot. The Martinezes were not hurt.

A friend of the family, musician Ricky P., and his band Ricky P. and the Blues Monsoon is holding a benefit concert tomorrow night at Lume/Copper Room, 222 S. Church Ave. Half of the $5 cover charge will go to the family, along with 10 percent of the bar bill, said general manager Jeff Holley. The concert starts at 10 p.m.
