FORT MYERS, Fla. - Planned Parenthood has begun offering its own brand of condoms with a toll-free number for the organization printed on the wrapper.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America made the condoms available at its health centers nationwide April 17, saying it was responding to client demand for the "silkiest, most comfortable condoms" with top protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Each affiliate determines its own price for the condoms, said Colleen McCabe, a spokeswoman at the organization's national office in New York.
For example, Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida put packets of six on sale for $2 Monday. Some giveaway programs will continue.
The telephone number connects callers to the nearest Planned Parenthood clinic, where a medical employee will be available to answer questions, said Barbara Zdravecky, president of the Florida chapter.
