I'm writing in reference to the cover story two weeks ago in the Wildcat. It went off on how the sexual laws banning sodomy (and) oral sex had been banned and how it was a huge victory for gays and lesbians and would allow them more sexual freedom.
All I can say is, give me a break. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the laws being repealed. If the gay/lesbian community wants them gone as a symbolic gesture, then I'm all for that. The laws did go into places where the government shouldn't go. But is anyone REALLY affected by the laws being repealed? They were never enforced!
Is there a single gay, lesbian, or straight person on this campus who has ever gotten a ticket or gone to jail because of any of these statutes? Yeah, I agree with the laws being repealed, but its not going to change anyone's life or give anyone more sexual freedom than they had before.
Its merely disposing of useless laws that did nothing more than take up space in the statute books. If it makes the gay/lesbian community feel good, great. But no one's life will be any different than it was before.

Jeff Lund - awesome commentary in the summer Wildcat on June 27, 2001. I agree 100 percent with what you said. Frankly, I am sick of all of these high school bitches getting drafted into professionalism without truly proving themselves first. Soon, college basketball is only going to have jokers like you and I playing, because all of the truly great athletes will already be in the NBA. Hell, we won't even have to be good, just good enough to make Lute Olson's squad when they hold annual tryouts on campus in August. The NBA has become a joke. I'm sticking to NCAA from now on.
