Career Week starts tomorrow

More than 100 companies coming for three-day gathering, which goes through Thursday

The annual University of Arizona Career Fair begins tomorrow as more than 100 companies gather to recruit students for various jobs across the nation.

The fair will be held Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the McKale Center, which is a change of venue from last year.

"Freshmen, sophomores - whatever year they are - should check it out," said Susan Miller, marketing and special event program coordinator for UA Career Services.

Miller said companies like Microsoft, Amazon.com and Starbucks will be on campus for the Career Fair, handing out information and interviewing students for a variety of jobs and internships.

The CIA will also be at the fair to interview prospective employees.

The event will be an opportunity for seniors to get permanent jobs, juniors and sophomores to get internships and freshmen to see what job opportunities await them outside of college, according to Miller.

The fair will give students experience in answering questions and presenting themselves to prospective employers in a concise manner, she added.

Studio art freshman Lauren Niedergang said professors in her art classes have been encouraging students to attend the fair.

"They were saying that any fine arts student should go," Niedergang said.

She added that word about the fair has been spreading through an e-mail list that she belongs to.

"It'll be a good thing to go to," she said.

Not everyone has heard about the multi-day event though.

Physiological sciences freshman Janelle Casanave said she was not aware that the Career Fair was occurring this week, but she still may attend.

"I'm not really looking for a job," Casanave said, but added she will probably go check it out.
