Germans break up neo-Nazi concert

By The Associated Press

BERLIN - A riot erupted when police broke up a neo-Nazi concert with smoke bombs and tear gas in the northern city of Lueneberg, injuring 46 officers and 15 others, police said yesterday.

Two of the officers suffered head injuries and were hospitalized in the melee Saturday night. Thirty-two people were arrested for disturbing the peace.

The concert - which included numerous neo-Nazi bands from Germany and abroad - was broken up because the event was connected to the banned international neo-Nazi organizations "Blood and Honor" and its youth wing "White Youth."

Also yesterday, four of seven neo-Nazis arrested in the arson attack of an immigrant home early Saturday were ordered to remain in custody while authorities determine charges. The four men, aged between 20 and 23, have not made any statements on the attack but are known to have earlier involvement in anti-foreigner activities, police said.

Two children, aged 2 and 3, were lightly injured after Molotov cocktails were thrown into the apartment building in the western city of Wuppertal for refugees from the former Yugoslavia.

Three women also arrested were freed from custody, police said, because they had not directly participated in the attack. They are being investigated on possible accessory charges.
