Dream Team is my team

By Kamy Shaygan

Arizona Daily Wildcat

What is the United States supposed to do? Is it our fault that the Lithuanians can't hang with the best in the West.

Of course it isn't.

The Olympics are designed to award the best athletes in the world. Each country sends their best athletes to represent them in the Olympiad.

It just happens that the United States basketball team happens to be unbelievably dominant. Some might say that isn't fair.

Well, if it isn't fair, why does the U.S. send their best athletes in huge events such as swimming or track?

The whole point of the Olympics is to truly find out who is the best at a certain sport. If the U.S. decided to send some basketball team loaded with CBA All-Stars, it would not do the top notch players in the NBA justice.

Then if the U.S. was to loose, everyone would be bent on why the U.S. didn't win.

Instead of criticizing the margin of victories, the fans of basketball should appreciate how dominating these players really are.

Last week Vince Carter had a dunk that was, well, Vince-licous. He alley-ooped it off the backboard if you can picture that.

When the dream team is on TV, it is almost a showcase rather than a basketball match. That should not be criticized but rather admired.

It shows how dominating these players really are in comparison to the rest of the world.

The very first dream team, which consisted of Jordan, Magic, and Bird, is perhaps the greatest basketball team of all time.

That is something you can only get in the Olympics. Almost every person can recall a favorite dream team moment.

The one that I have in mind is the fast break where His Airness threw it off the backboard for Scottie Pippen.

Keep something in mind. Just because a team or a person is dominant at a sport, that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be allowed to showcase it.

If that was the case, there would never be a Carl Lewis, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Jim Thorpe, etc.

This is truly disrespectful to the players on the Dream Team. The fact that some people don't believe they should be in the Olympics is straight ridiculous.

If that is the case, the Olympics will be consisted of athletes that aren't even up to par. That would be exciting to watch - some scrub running sprints.

If you are the best at your sport, you should represent in full fashion. There is no doubt about it.
