UA student arrested for bringing gun to class

Student upset with topic discussed, gun to serve as protection

A University of Arizona student was arrested last Wednesday after admitting that he brought a gun to campus.

Officers confronted Brenton House, 29, a creative writing graduate student and poetry center employee, after an individual in the class told officers that House carried a 9-mm pistol into a poetry class.

House was upset with the topic discussed, a student-written piece made fun of presidential candidate George W. Bush and "rednecks," during the class two weeks earlier.

He then went to the class on Oct. 4 with a Confederate flag draped around his waist and carried a gun in protest, UAPD reports stated.
