$8,000 found in man's buttocks

By The

AMARILLO, Texas - Police found $14,000 on a man whom they suspected of smoking marijuana - including more than $8,000 hidden between his buttocks.

"That's 80 $100 bills," Cpl. Brent Harlan said yesterday.

Potter County authorities went to court to keep the money seized Tuesday from Carlton Meridith, calling the amount suspicious.

Meridith, 32, told officers he got the money by sponsoring a St. Louis rap group called Forty Caliber. St. Louis authorities said no such concert had taken place in recent months and they didn't know of a local band by that name.

Meridith, who was arrested on a marijuana possession charge, was released Wednesday after posting bail. Police refused to disclose his hometown, saying he had recently arrived from St. Louis.

There was no telephone listing for him in the Amarillo area.
