DOUGLAS, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents seized 1,750 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $1.4 million from a van that drove through the Douglas Port of Entry without stopping Monday night.
The white Econoline van didn't stop at the secondary inspection stall about 10:30 p.m., said Rob Daniels, a spokesman for the Border Patrol. Patrol officers in Pirtleville spotted it a short time later and watched the driver abandon the vehicle, he said.
"This is a classic example of smugglers becoming so desperate that they have to run their loads through the port of entry," Daniels said.
