Mills and Farmer will split time against OSU

UA head coach Dick Tomey and wide receiver Bobby Wade both went to the voting booth early yesterday morning to exercise their right to vote in the general election.

Ever since the early 1990s, Tomey has made it a tradition to try to get his football teams to go out and get registered to vote.

This year, more than 80 percent of the team is registered to vote. Most players used an absentee ballot.

While Tomey encourages players to take part in government, he said that the decision to vote is ultimately a personal decision.

"We have encouraged them to go, but whether they go or not, it is their business," Tomey said.

Neither Tomey or Wade would reveal which candidate they voted for.

Wade - only 19 years old - is voting in his first presidential election and said that either candidate has a good chance to win.

"I don't want anyone to think anything bad about me, so I am not going to say who I voted for," Wade said. "It will probably go down to the last vote of the day and hopefully, my guy wins."

The Wildcats will use both sophomore Leo Mills and freshman Clarence Farmer as running backs Saturday against Oregon State.

Mills entered the UA record books Saturday night against Washington by gaining 282 all-purpose yards, good for ninth in Arizona history.

The sophomore from Humble, Texas, also set a career high with 29 rushes for 185 yards. Mills also logged two touchdowns in the 35-32 loss to the Huskies.

Farmer - who had started the previous four games - was slowed by an ankle injury last week and saw limited playing time.

The freshman caught just one pass halfway through the second quarter, which he fumbled.

"I think Clarence will be back," Tomey said. "It looks (like) at this point that Clarence and Leo will get most of the carries."

Sophomore Larry Croom, who has carried the ball 54 times so far this season, is questionable for Saturday's game with an ankle injury.

Tomey has some advice for those looking for something to do this weekend.

"Go see 'The Legend of Bagger Vance,'" he said. "It is so good."

"Bagger Vance," a movie starring Charlize Theron, Will Smith and Matt Damon, portrays a washed-up golfer's return to prominence thanks to his caddie.

Tomey said that the movie's message and lack of cursing and violence appealed to him.

The movie, which is rated PG-13, is directed by Robert Redford.
