Spiller is good; free publicity for Kolbe is not

To the editor,

While I'm not sure what God has to do with the wicked deeds of the Republicans, i.e. the Bush cabinet, I felt that Cory Spiller's analysis of the base, unsophisticated and myopic character of Bush's right-wing/Republican program was right on target. It's refreshing to read something so candid in the opinion pages of the Wildcat, which critical thinkers know is an organ of the Republican Party itself when all is said and done. Which reminds me...

I continue to be shocked by what shameless lengths you Republicans will go to promote the welfare of the rich and the big corporations at the expense of the ordinary laborer and consumer, something that should be apparent to you considering the attack on public education by the Republicans in recent years. Specifically, your decision to use a photograph of the Republican Kolbe at the Bobbi Olson funeral on the front page is outrageous! I'm aghast that you would politicize the funeral of a respected member of the UA community who, along with her husband, has provided such a positive presence in Tucson.

It's this type of decision that will help to eventually bring us a government that we now only read about and that is akin to the right-wing dictatorships of Central and South America. We've already come moved a step closer to the loss of democracy with the unusually high number of improprieties associated with the Florida presidential vote and the recount process and litigation associated with it.
