undefeated season at home still in sight

With only four home games left this season, the Arizona Icecats have a chance to accomplish something that none of the players on this year's team have in their UA careers - an undefeated home season.

The Icecats are 13-0-1 at home this season, and they are looking to add two more victories to an already impressive home record this weekend when the University of Michigan (20-2-1) comes to Tucson.

"I'm expecting them to be pretty good," senior forward Ed Carfora said. "I expect them to be talented and to be well coached."

Carfora was suspended after a fight last week against a Towson University player and will return on Saturday.

"I can't wait to get back out there. I'm really looking forward to getting back," Carfora said.

The Wolverines - a Division II team in the American College Hockey Association - have faced only one Division I team this season, coming away with a 7-5 victory against unranked John Carrol University.

The Icecats have taken care of almost every Division I team they have faced this season, defeating the No. 9, 10, 14, 15 and 17 teams.

The only team that has given Arizona problems is Saint Louis, who have both defeated and tied the Icecats.

Freshman goaltender Brian Schilling said the Icecats could easily have been undefeated so far.

"The only reason we had trouble with Saint Louis was because of ourselves," freshman goalie Brian Schilling said. "We can never take anyone for granted. When our seniors talk to us, when our co-captains talk to us, when (head coach) Leo (Golembiewski) talks to us, they want to go out with an undefeated season at home and with a national championship."

For the entire season, the Icecats have been focusing on winning a national championship in March. Over the next five weeks, UA will play just seven games.

Junior defenseman Dave Galardini said that the break will give the team time to prepare for teams like Penn State, Ohio, Minot State and Eastern Michigan, the top four teams in the nation.

"We're just as good," Galardini said. "We wouldn't blow anybody out, it won't be easy, but we can beat all those teams. The most important thing for us is to win in the playoffs. The Delaware games showed that we can win a championship."
