Budget reductions would limit class selections, put research contacts in danger

In a memo sent to the capitol yesterday, UA President Peter Likins said the university would feel long-term effects if Gov. Jane Dee Hull's what-if scenario of cutting more of the UA's budget becomes a reality.

University of Arizona seniors would graduate later, more UA employees would lose their jobs, fewer courses and course sections would be offered and valuable research contracts would be lost, Likins wrote to Hull. [Read article]

Softball set for mid-week rematch

At least the weather's been nice for the Eastern Michigan University softball team.

The team is spending its winter recess in Tucson, of all places, and the Wildcats dominated them 11-0 during last weekend's Worth Wildcat Invitational.

EMU will look for redemption when it faces Arizona in a rematch at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m. today.

The Eagles battled to a 2-3 record during the Wildcat Invitational, and their winter recess also included a contest at Arizona State last night. They will compete again in Tucson this weekend at the Hillenbrand Invitational [Read article]

SALT Center unfairly attacked

This letter is in response to Joseph J. De La Rosa's Feb. 15 letter. In his letter, he makes some valid points about the frustrations brought on by the recent budget cuts. However, I was very dismayed by the comments in the latter part of his letter in which he attacks the existence of the SALT program and its building. [Read article]

Tony Furtado sick of being 'stuck in a genre'

Contrary to perpetual questioning, New American Roots musician Tony Furtado shares no relation with Grammy nominee Nelly Furtado.
