One game remaining for ruggers before long rest

The Wildcat rugby team will continue conference play today when it travels to San Diego to play the University of San Diego. This will be the Wildcats' final game before spring break; the team will not play again until March 23 against Arizona State.

Arizona (5-7, 3-3) ended a school-record 3 -game conference losing streak last weekend with wins over UCLA and Long Beach State at Estevan Park.

"We were delighted to bounce back against UCLA and Long Beach State," head coach Dave Sitton said. "Whenever a team can post over 90 points to their opponents' 30, we realize that we are playing well."

The team is looking for its third straight win and will face a struggling UCSD team. The Tritons, who are currently next to last in the SoCal Conference, are in their third year at the Division I rugby level after moving up from Division II.

"It's a type of team we should beat," Sitton said.

He added that the keys to the game tonight are playing hard and executing.

"It's that simple."

The Tritons (3-4) were defeated last week by SoCal Conference leader San Diego State 72-12.

Sitton said it was vital for the team to return to the basics of the game and to continue improving.

He also stressed the importance of winning this game going into a long break.

For the first time in the history of the SoCal conference, the Wildcats trail in-state rival Arizona State in the standings. A Wildcat win tonight would tie the two teams in the conference standings. This would set up a conference final game that would determine the SoCal conference third place team.
