Tomorrow will be a homecoming for two former UA track coaches - Mike Maynard of Boise State and Ralph Lindeman from Air Force.
The two head coaches were both former assistant coaches at Arizona and return to Tucson tomorrow, when their teams will compete in the Jim Click Shootout at Drachman Stadium.
"It will be a reunion of sorts for all of the coaches," said UA head coach Dave Murray, who will retire after the season. "There are lots of relationships among our teams and it would really be special to perform well."
Kansas State will also compete in the meet.
The Jim Click Shootout will be Arizona's first real test of the outdoor season, as the two previous meets served as warm-ups.
At the end of the indoor season, the UA women were ranked No. 5 and the Kansas State women were ranked No. 14, according to the latest Trackwire poll.
Although the outdoor season is still young, the Wildcats already have two NCAA provisional qualifiers and hope to add to that total tomorrow.
This meet will be scored differently than most, with a stress on individual performances rather than team performances.
The team with the highest combined individual points will take home the Jim Click Shootout Trophy.
"Since this meet is scored differently, we really need people to make big marks," said UA assistant coach Fred Harvey, who will take over for Murray after the season. "Athletes who are the favorite in their events must do well."
After a grueling indoor season, UA standout athletes such as senior sprinter Brianna Glenn, freshman pole vaulter Amy Linnen, senior sprinter Tara Chaplin and senior sprinter Mike Kenyon were given a chance to rest during the past few weeks.
But business will be back to usual tomorrow as the indoor athletes look to transfer their dominance into the sunshine. The field events start at 11 a.m. and the running events begin at 1 p.m.
