The Laxcats wrap up an eight-game homestand tonight with their regular-season finale against Santa Clara.

UA enters the game riding a four-game winning streak and will look to gain some momentum for its April 13 meeting with No. 1 Sonoma State.

"These next two games (against Santa Clara and Arizona State) are to fine tune ourselves for Sonoma," head coach Adam Hopkins said.

The No. 7 Laxcats (11-1, 5-0) are coming off two non-conference wins over Illinois and Colorado on Saturday and Sunday. Hopkins said he is a little worried about a letdown but expects his team to come out and play well.

"We know we're a better team," Hopkins said. "We want to play that way."

The Laxcats' lone loss of the year came at the hands of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo the weekend after an upset victory against No. 4 Michigan.

Laxcat senior defenseman Brent Richey said he thinks the team has learned its lesson to not let down after winning a close match.

"We learned a lesson against Cal Poly," Richey said. "This team is rolling."

The Broncos (5-3, 1-2) come into the game after beating Arizona State Sunday, 14-11. Santa Clara is a member of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League North division and is known for its potent offense. The Broncos are led in scoring by midfielders Brian Boitano, Connor Harty and attackman Luke Young. Young leads all Bronco scorers with 31 points.

The Laxcats will look to counter Santa Clara's high-scoring offense with the WCLL points leader, senior attackman Jay Spatafora. Spatafora is coming off an 11-point weekend.

"It should be a fun game to watch," Hopkins said. "There should be a lot of scoring and I'm looking forward to opening (the scoring) up."

In recent games, UA has been led in scoring by junior attackmen Charlie Mink, Josh Morrison, junior midfielder Bryan Moore and Spatafora.

Hopkins said he would like to see some other people get involved in the scoring.

"There are a bunch of guys that are playing well, but aren't scoring," Hopkins said

He said it would be key in the final stretch of the season for the rest of the players to contribute offensively.

Both Hopkins and Richey agreed that for the Laxcats to win, they are going to have to play their game.

"We really need to focus," Richey said. "We need to play within ourselves."

"We need to do the stuff we've been doing and play hard-nosed lacrosse," Hopkins said.
