Men's golf places eighth

The Arizona men's golf team finished eighth yesterday in the Oregon Duck Invitational in Junction City, Ore., after a final-round team score of 1-over-par 289.

The three-round team score of 10-over-par 874 was 25 strokes behind the pace set by tourney winner Oregon, the host of the event at Shadow Hills Country Club.

UA sophomore Chris Nallen was the only Wildcat to crack the top five, shooting 5-under-par 311 for the tournament to finish tied for fifth, five strokes back of winner Jon Reehoorn from Washington State.

Arizona junior Reid Haltey and freshman Nathan Lashley joined Nallen in the top 25, entering the clubhouse at even-par 216 and 3-over-par 219, respectively. Haltey took 20th overall, while Lashley, who competed as an invididual, rode his UA career-low score to 25th place. Rounding out the Wildcat lineup were junior Ricky Barnes in 37th place at 5-over-par 221, freshman Kipp Riehle in 62nd place at 12-over-par 228, and sophomore Andy Connell in 73rd place at 14-over-par 230.

The Wildcats are next in action April 5 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, at the U.S. Collegiate Championships.

Women's golf ranks ninth without Ochoa

The Arizona women's golf team battled the inclement weather and the absence of its best player to finish ninth yesterday at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.

While Ochoa recuperated from her fifth-place performance at Tucson's Welch's/Circle K Championships earlier in the week, the Wildcats struggled to a team score of 114-over-par 966, 46 strokes back of Duke's tourney-winning 68-over-par 920.

A trio of Arizona players - junior Laura Myerscough, senior Cristina Baena and freshman Miriam Kraschinski - tied for 24th place at 26-over-par 239. The finish was the highest-ever for Kraschinski and marked the sixth top 25 finish for Myerscough on the season.

Texas' Janice Olivencia won the tournament at 5-over-par 218.

Wildcat freshman Mar Garcia finished her second collegiate tournament tied for 54th, while senior Cathie Williamson claimed 67th place.

The Wildcat women travel to Tempe's Karsten Golf Course for their final regular-season tourney - the PING/ASU Invitational - April 5.
