Help the UA population become a safer, more open-minded and helpful group toward its gay and lesbian members. The SAFE ZONE, a group sponsored by UA Residence Life, exists to spread knowledge about supporting and nurturing any gay, lesbian or transgendered person who needs a little bit of a boost. The group will hold training sessions today between 10:30 a.m. and noon. The cost is free and a resource packet will be provided at the training session. To register, send an e-mail to safezone@life.arizona.edu with pertinent information so the group may contact you. For more information, call 626-4855.

The dark of night brings many wonders, but it unfortunately also provides some of society's more deviant people an opportunity to commit acts and crimes of violence. We won't take it any more. Stop by the UA Mall area near the stage at 3 p.m. to participate in "Take Back the Night," an annual march and gathering against violence. A pair of actresses will perform parts of "The Vagina Monologues," two slam poets will read their work and victims or friends of victims of violence will speak. After the entertainment, at about 7:30 p.m., everyone will march from the UA Mall to North Fourth Avenue, where more performances will take place. For more information, contact Rachel Lehrman at 621-3919.

As time goes by, social scientists realize more and more that the numbers of people following religions is slowly shrinking. Find out what Mike Hout, a social scientist from the University of California Berkeley, has to say about the issue when he presents "Explaining the Rising Proportion of Americans with No Religion: Politics and Generations." The talk is free and runs from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Social Sciences building, Room 415. For more information, contact Beverly Gilbert at 621-3531 or e-mail her at bgilbert@u.arizona.edu.

Beginning today and lasting for the next month, the Lionel Rombach Gallery will present the work of its own students. Members of the visual communication program will display graphic design, illustration and computer-related 2-D art for juries to rate and grade. The Rombach Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by at your leisure today or during April and witness the talent on hand at UA. For more information, contact the School of Art at 621-7000 or visit the Web site at http://www.arts.arizona.edu/galleries.
