No commencement speaker scheduled; five honorary degrees to be conferred

More than 5,600 students will leave McKale Center Saturday as members of UA’s 126th graduating class.

University of Arizona President Peter Likins will confer degrees upon more than 4,269 undergraduate, 837 masters and 276 doctoral students, as well as 98 medical, 128 law and 56 pharmacy students.

This year’s graduation commencement will not feature a keynote speaker, and the ceremony will focus more on the graduating students than in past years. [Read article]

Saturday, 11:30 a.m., convocation in Crowder Hall of the Music building, followed by a reception in the Architecture building.

Preseason No. 1 returns entire starting lineup

Prior to 1997, when Arizona won its first-ever NCAA National Championship, the question was when the talented Arizona program was going to be No. 1.

Now the question is, when will Lute Olson lead his team to another?

After a 24-10 season by a team comprised of inexperienced teenagers and a trio of juniors, Arizona has managed to keep itself in contention for the title and set itself up for a possible run next season. Though many of the players were new to Division I basketball, at times it was hard to tell. From the start of the season, Olson knew he was heading a very special team. [Read article]

The year in review: 2001-2002 Trials & Tribulations

Another year is done. The students, faculty and staff at the University of Arizona have endured an emotional and financial roller coaster that has made us stronger. It has also presented future challenges that we’ll need to hurdle.
