Arizona Summer Wildcat
Wednesday June 12, 2002
Steven Grace will be practicing in Arizona Stadium tomorrow. But heāll be wearing a different uniform for the first time in four years.
The former Arizona Wildcat standout offensive lineman, now a member of the NFLās Arizona Cardinals, will be in Tucson today through Saturday for the teamās Southern Arizona Mini-Camp. It will be the second time the Cardinals have held a mini-camp in Tucson.
The event ÷ the teamās final mini-camp before the start of training camp ÷ will include two-hour practices on Thursday and Friday.
ćWe are excited to return to Tucson,ä said Cardinals Vice President and General Counsel Michael Bidwell.
ćWeāre going to try to meet as many people as possible during our stay.ä
The practices, free to all fans, were moved to the evening so the temperature would be more comfortable.
ćIām looking forward to bringing our team and organization to Tucson and being able to spend three days with our fans in Southern Arizona,ä Cardinal head coach Dave McGinnis said. ć(The team) will also get quality work with night practices at the University of Arizona.ä
The Cardinals are coming off a 2001 season where they finished 7-9 overall. Due to realignment, the Cardinals switched divisions from the NFC East to the NFC West this season, joining the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. The last time former Arizona State quarterback and six-year Cardinal starter Jake Plummer played a game in Arizona Stadium his Sun Devils routed the Wildcats 56-14, during the 1996 season. That season Plummer led the Sun Devils to an undefeated record and the Rose Bowl.
