Top UA reciever was subdued by Scottsdale police after nightclub brawl

LOS ANGELES ö The Arizona football team received more troubling news Wednesday when an arrest warrant was issued for star wide receiver Bobby Wade.

Wade, a senior, appeared in court later Wednesday, which negated the arrest warrant issued after the 21-year-old Phoenix native failed to show up for a court date July 25.

In court, Wade pleaded innocent to three misdemeanor charges stemming from a June 23 fight outside Polly Estherās nightclub in Scottsdale.

Wade was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct in an early-morning fight in the parking lot of the nightclub.

"It really surprises me," said UA quarterback Jason Johnson after hearing of the warrant Wednesday morning at Pacific 10 Conference media day in Los Angeles.

"I wouldnāt expect something like that from Bobby."

Scottsdale police used pepper spray to subdue Wade and officers said they later found a 9 mm handgun with a loaded 15-round magazine in his vehicle.

Wade was unavailable for comment.

Wade, who did not have an attorney with him Wednesday, was allowed to leave the court.

Heās scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 6.

Last year, he set career highs in receiving catching 62 passes for 882 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wade has led Arizona in receiving the past two seasons.

The warrant marked the second time in less than a week that Wildcat football players were in trouble with the law.

Cornerback Danny Perry, defensive end Andre Torrey and tight end Javier Martinez were arrested Sunday morning for disorderly conduct early after police said they were fighting outside a Fourth Avenue bar.

The three players were released on the scene after being arrested for what witness descriptions in the police report describe as "punching everyone."
