Part of the German film series presented by the University of Arizona Department of German Studies, the movie "Fear of Heights," plays for free Thursday night at 7:30 in the Modern Languages auditorium. The Austrian film is love story set in war-torn France.
Get out your picnic blanket because Groovin' on the Grass is showcasing the bluegrass musical group Hammersmith Band on the main Mall stage Thursday at noon.
Heartfelt and hysterically funny singer and songwriter Cheryl Wheeler performs Friday at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located on 4831 E. 22 nd St. Tickets are $14 in advance and available at Hear's Music and Antigone Books; $16 at the door. Metal artist Thomas Mann's show, "New and Nostalgic Works," has an opening reception Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Obsidian Gallery, located at St. Philip's Plaza, 4340 N. Campbell Ave., Suite 90. Mann will lecture about his work Friday at the Tucson Museum of Art Lecture Hall. Also on exhibit is "The Oxidation Burial Project - The Unburial."

Three cheers for airplanes and kites! The Arizona State Museum opens the new exhibit "In Flight," a collection of aerial photographs of the Southwest landscape, Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Included in the event is the opportunity to meet Adreil Heisey and his ultralite airplane, and learn about kite flying and building with the Arizona Free Flyers. The event takes place at the ASM, just east of the UA main gate at Park Avenue and University Boulevard.
