ILC dedication 'a reason to celebrate'
New center to open next semester without many technological advancements
The ILC - a $20 million underground computer and classroom center for first- and second-year students - will be dedicated today, but the facility will not be the high-tech marvel officials once envisioned.
State-mandated budget cuts, which will slice $13.8 million or more from the University of Arizona's 2002 fiscal year budget, threatened to delay the opening. However, officials settled speculation earlier this month by announcing that the Integrated Learning Center will open in January, but with less technology and staff.

Officer John Randle examines a hat taken off Tucson resident John Mikiska, 49, of the 3800 block of East Lee yesterday at the 1000 block of Olive Drive on the UA campus. UAPD officers approached a vehicle after they received a phone call about a suspicious character outside of the Harvill building. Officers found Mikiska masturbating inside his vehicle, and he was arrested on one count of lewd and lascivious acts.

Not like old times
Both USC and UA look to remain in the bowl game hunt
The UA football team is hoping that having players' families in the crowd will bring them luck. It did last year.
If that logic holds true, then Arizona (3-4 overall, 0-4 Pacific 10 Conference) is in good shape tomorrow afternoon against Southern California (2-4 overall, 1-3 Pac-10) at Arizona Stadium.

Letters to the Editor
Wildcat editorial an injustice
The Wildcat opinion piece, "AIC closing was correct choice by Likins, university officials," authored by the Wildcat Opinions Board, was rhetorically indefensible. It characterized student and faculty efforts to overturn Pres. Likins' decision as a lot of "pathetic pouting" and "sniveling," without producing a shred of evidence or a decent argument that it is either.

Hardcore bands rage Rialto stage for charity
Hardcore music is loud and aggressive. Most of the bands that play it and kids who listen to it are considered to act likewise. But a group of people is putting on a show this weekend that should prove that the only thing aggressive about them is dedication to their cause: helping high school kids stay off the street and stay in school.
