Negotiations between ASUA and the band 311 about a Nov. 2 concert at Bear Down Field fell through, ASUA officials announced Wednesday.

The concert would have replaced the Eve 6 show. Eve 6 canceled its Aug. 24 appearance at CatFest.

311 plans to finish its tour with a concert in Las Vegas, then return home to California on Nov. 1.

Pam Epstein, special events director for Associated Students of the University of Arizona, and other ASUA officials offered 311 $45,000 for the concert.

311 was asking for $50,000 to $55,000 - more than what ASUA President Ray Quintero said he was willing to spend.

Ticket sales would have covered the concert's cost and generated up to $100,000, which ASUA would have funneled to SafeRide and other student groups, Quintero said.

"I think the band just had a conflict of interest ... it's disappointing, but Pam (Epstein) does have several concerts planned for the spring, so we do have something to look forward to - just not in November," said ASUA Sen. Doug Hartz.

Two more concerts are in the works for next semester.

On Jan. 27, a comedian - likely a "Saturday Night Live" cast member - and a small, nationally known band will take the stage in Centennial Hall, Epstein said.

The major concert for next semester will be part of Cat Craze, the spring version of CatFest that takes place in April. Epstein said she wants to recruit a band with a big enough name to sell out McKale Center.

Epstein said UA students can give her their suggestions for bands they would like to see play in April or in January by dropping her a note in the ASUA office on the third floor of the Student Union Memorial Center.

"It is a concert for the students, so the more student input I get, the better," Epstein said.
