UA benefactor Roy Drachman dies at 95

Businessman was an inspiration to community leaders, family and friends

One of UA's most prolific donors, Roy Drachman, died early yesterday morning. He was 95.

Drachman, a local real estate broker and legend in Tucson, donated a total of $3 million to the University of Arizona throughout his life. [Read article]

Unfair accusation

I am writing in response to Patrick Cummings' commentary Wednesday, "Racist Airline Security." I traveled through several airports during the holidays and did not perceive any racist profiling. In fact, I was pulled aside for a random check, as were numerous other Caucasians. I am not saying that racist profiling does not occur. I certainly understand and echo Mr. Cummings' disgust for and call to action against such profiling. [Read article]

School of Art director steps down; interim appointed

Andrew Polk respected by coworkers, will return to UA next year

Andrew W. Polk III, director of the school of art in the College of Fine Arts, announced his resignation from the position yesterday.

Polk was appointed as interim director of what was then the department of art in 1994. He was unable to be reached for comment. [Read article]
