If you are looking to earn money for research, you need to know how to ask for it. Come down to the Douglass building, Room 102, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. for a Center for Latin American Studies Brownbag lunch meeting "Writing successful proposals to fund your research and fieldwork." The presentation is targeted at students looking for summer grants, but may be useful to anyone looking to receive a grant. So load up a paper bag with some peanut butter and jelly and get ready to learn the art of proposal writing.

Continue the journey through America's jails with a behind-the-bars look at correctional facilities. The Center for Creative Photography plays host to "Prison Life: A Documentary Film Series" at 5:30 p.m. in the CCP auditorium. Tonight's installment is the film "900 Women," which takes viewers inside the Louisiana Correctional Institute and its most dangerous female prisoners. For more information, contact CCP at 621-7968 or e-mail a staff member at koenigs@ccp.library.arizona.edu.

Join three distinguished female authors at the Tucson Women's Club, 6245 E. Bellevue Ave., tonight as they present their work during the Eighth Annual Women Writers Event. Lorene Cary, Patricia Preciado Martin and Katherine Martin will be at the event to sign books, share stories and hang out. Tickets for the event cost $30 at the door. For more information, contact Pat Hnilo at 621-5656 or e-mail at hnilo-mp@email.arizona.edu.

If you still haven't found your career goals or motivation, head to Old Main, Room 104, from 10 a.m. to noon to speak with a professional counselor about your needs. A second session of walk-in counseling is available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the reception desk in the lower level of Old Main for students who still think it's the extended weekend. The counselors are on hand to talk about career planning and job search needs. Counseling sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact Career Services at 621-4224, e-mail the staff at careerservices@arizona.edu or visit the Web site at www.career.arizona.edu.
