The No. 16 University of Arizona women's gymnastics team fell to No. 1 UCLA, 195.275-197.400, on Sunday, Feb. 23 before a crowd of 3489 in UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. With the loss Arizona drops to 4-6, 1-3, while UCLA improves to 10-1-1, 5-1-1.

Individually for the Wildcats, sophomore Monica Bisordi tied for fourth place on vault (9.825), third on floor (9.900), and finished fifth on bars (9.825), fourth on beam (9.825) and fourth in the all-around (39.375)

Freshman Abby Pearson led Arizona on vault with a career-best 9.925, which was good for a share of second-place honors in the event. Sophomore Katie Johnson tied for third-place on floor (9.900) and sophomore Jamie Duce posted a career-best all-around score of 38.750.

UCLA grabbed an early lead in the first rotation after posting a 49.250 on vault, while Arizona finished with a score of 48.700 on bars. Senior Nikki Beyschau led off for the Wildcats on bars with a mark of 9.625, followed by a 9.750 by sophomore Stevie Fanning and a 9.600 by junior Andi McCabe. Junior Sheehan Lemley hit a 9.700 and Duce posted a bars mark of 9.725. Bisordi finished off the rotation for Arizona with a team-high 9.825.

Arizona was able to cut into UCLA's lead by posting a 48.775 on vault in the second rotation but trailed, 97.475-98.500, at the halfway point. Beyschau started the rotation for Arizona with a 9.625, followed by Duce's career-high 9.525 and a score of 9.625 by freshman Erin Muirhead. Johnson and Bisordi chipped in vault marks of 9.775 and 9.825, before Pearson closed out the rotation with her career-high 9.925.

"This meet was about us," head coach Bill Ryden said. "We went 23-for-24 with our routines, we had a few concentration lapses on beam at the end, but in reality the team did a good job. We needed to get back on the right track competitive wise. The scores will get better as we get healthier. But being on the road these scores certainly helped us and we competed better today then in the last two weeks, so that was definitely a positive."

Arizona returns home to face Pac-10 rival Stanford on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. (MST) in McKale Center.
