Race shouldn't affect quality of education

I'm a little confused about what is a "proper learning environment" and what would make UA a "diverse" campus. President Likins was quoted as saying in the Feb. 26 Wildcat, "you need to be in an environment with people who don't look like you." But in the Feb. 6 Wildcat, Alex Wright, director of African-American Student Affairs, said "People want to see someone who looks like them. They want to see it in the classroom." [Read article]

Guest Commentary: A look at good vs. evil in the New World Order

OK, let's get this out in the open: our little jaunt into Iraq is not a black and white issue, despite all efforts made by all diplomatic parties to make it so ÷ particularly the "allies," meaning America, Britain, and the tagalongs who hope to snag some scraps from those carving up Iraq's interests in the aftermath. There is some truth: Saddam Hussein is a cruel dictator who oppresses his people and needs to be stopped. But there is quite a bit of dubiousness as well: The way to accomplish this liberation is to bomb the country into gravel, decimate the infrastructure, then impose a dictator. [Read article]

Federal government denied reservations their prosperity

Throughout history, the actions and condescension of the United States government toward groups with low socioeconomic status and tinted skin tones have been deplorable at best. One would envision that in our current day and age, the vulnerability of minorities in our country would have diminished through the efforts of black, Hispanic, Asian and American Indian leaders. We should be an egalitarian society where a person's skin tone and bank account are not a measuring stick of worth. [Read article]
