Open debate about political issues part of ÎAmerican way'

I wish to congratulate Charles A. Peterson on having yet another ill-informed, irrational rant published. They always bring a smile to my face with their ridiculous assertions and incorrect claims.

It seems that this time Mr. Peterson has decided to criticize the "teach-in" last Tuesday that he apparently did not attend. If he had attended, he would know that the panelists presented facts and opinions while clearly distinguishing between the two and establishing the fact that there were considerations which they were not addressing. Furthermore, those in favor of going to war were encouraged to voice their opinions and participate. [Read article]

Editorial: The final days of fair tuition

You get what you pay for ÷ or at least you should.

But if the Arizona Board of Regents passes either President Pete Likins' or the student lobbyists' tuition plan tomorrow, which both allocate more than half of the proposed increase to financial aid, that's not going to happen.

Students won't get what they pay for. They will not see an improvement in the quality of their education. That is, there won't be better class availability and professors still won't be able to photocopy enough syllabi. [Read article]

photo Issue of the Week: Should administrators continue their crackdown on hazing?

One week ago, more than 300 members of the UA greek community met to listen to Risk Management and hazing specialist Ron Binder speak at the New Member Symposium. The Arizona Collegiate Leadership Conference over the weekend attracted 700 students.

Nearly a quarter of them were from the greek community who attended to learn how to combat hazing.

In the past year, three UA fraternities have allegedly engaged in hazing incidents ÷ Delta Tau Delta, Sigma Chi and Delta Chi. [Read article]
