Ochoa looking to duplicate success of former UA great and LPGA star Annika Sorenstam

Lorena Ochoa has never had a problem with challenges. With only seven golf courses in all of Guadalajara, Mexico, getting a tee time wasn't exactly easy for Ochoa. But after joining a country club at the age of five, she played every chance she got.

After she became a local prodigy, Ochoa decided to start playing golf at UA, and it didn't take long for people to start learning who the 5-foot-6 powerhouse was. It took even less time for her to make her first mark on college golf. After a ninth-place finish in her first-ever event as a Wildcat, Ochoa won the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational and never looked back. [Read article]

Pac-10 teams getting tough for tourney

The Arizona men's basketball team is beginning to shed its soft image, and people are taking notice.

Baseball back home after near upset of UT

Arizona head coach Andy Lopez was pleased with his team's efforts even though the Wildcats dropped two of three on the road against defending national champion Texas.

"It was a real positive experience. I received positive quotes from the (UT) fans and from the (Longhorn) coaching staff," Lopez said. "Our team didn't come close to embarrassing themselves."

It will serve as a jumping-off point as Arizona (12-7) begins a stretch of five games in five days that will heavily tax the pitching staff but gives Lopez an opportunity to experiment with closing role. [Read article]

Golf takes 2nd in LasVegas

The Arizona men's golf team broke its impressive spring start with a seventh-place finish in last weekend's Toyota Men's Golf Collegiate Championship.

After posting the best second round score (282) of any team in the tournament, the Wildcats faltered Sunday with their worst score of the tournament and dropped from fourth place to seventh.

Junior Chris Nallen was the only UA golfer in the top 30 with rounds of (70, 70, 73 = 213). Nallen posted his seventh top 20 finish of the year with a tie for 14th place in Las Vegas. [Read article]
