ANAHEIM, Calif. ÷ That's why they call it March Madness.

As quickly as the Wildcats came back from a number of large deficits Saturday, their season ended.

The final horn also marked the conclusion of the careers of three of the most celebrated seniors in Arizona basketball history.

A missed 3-pointer by senior Jason Gardner as time expired bounced off the rim and put Kansas in the Final Four for the second straight year, leaving UA wondering just how everything went to so wrong in the 78-75 defeat in the Arrowhead Pond. [Read article]

Title quest, senior careers, end with heartbreaking loss one win from Final Four

ANAHEIM, Calif. ÷ They didn't have to talk but they did.

Luke Walton has dodged questions before. So has Salim Stoudamire.

But UA players answered all the questions thrown at them by the media, no matter how much it might have hurt to answer.

When the door to the locker room opened and the media members filed in, the Wildcat players didn't want to look. [Read article]

Game Notes: Freshmen push into lineup for Elite Eight

ANAHEIM, Calif. ÷ As familiar as it has become to see Salim Stoudamire knocking down a 3-pointer this year, it has also become common to see him sitting on the bench with a towel over his head.

Softball sends Ducks, Beavers home winless

While lacking in both experience and depth in its pitching rotation, the Arizona softball team demonstrated this weekend that it can compete against the elite teams in the Pacific-10 Conference.

The Wildcats (34-3) opened conference play by sending the packed house at UA's Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium home early after the eight-run mercy rule was implemented yesterday in an 8-0 victory over Oregon. [Read article]

Baseball drops two of three at UCLA

The Arizona baseball team recovered from two straight losses to scrape out a 12-10 victory against UCLA yesterday in the third game of the weekend road series.

The Wildcats (22-10, 3-3 Pacific-10 Conference) brought their conference record back to even with yesterday's win over the Bruins (16-16, 2-1).

Junior outfielder Brian Anderson rapped out three hits in the game, including his team-leading ninth home run, and added four RBIs. [Read article]

Men's tennis opens Pac-10 schedule

UA men's tennis opened its Pac-10 schedule this weekend and was immediately put to the test by two of southern California's finest.

Nationally ranked squads No. 4 UCLA and No. 28 Southern California handed Arizona its first losses of the Pac-10 season. After dropping Friday's match to the Bruins by a score of 5-2, the Wildcats came back strong on Saturday against the Trojans but failed to avoid a weekend sweep. The Wildcats waged an emotional battle against the Trojans in an afternoon decided in the final set of the final match with USC taking the match 4-3. [Read article]
