photo Looking for leadership

After losing its senior captains to graduation, men's hoops will be forced to look elsewhere for guidance come next season

Lute Olson's greatest concern this off-season doesn't involve changing defenses or offensive schemes, but rather replacing the leadership lost with the departure of the team's three seniors.

Replacing Rick Anderson, Jason Gardner and Luke Walton won't be easy, but at least the UA head coach has options. [Read article]

Senior legacy far from failure

They deserved better.

It shouldn't have ended in Anaheim. It was New Orleans or bust. And why not? There was no reason to believe this trio would be denied yet again. Not with all the talent, not after all the dedication and devotion.

Once again, the three seniors that embodied everything that Arizona basketball stands for felt heartache.

In 1999 Luke Walton and Rick Anderson fell as a No. 5 seed to Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA tournament. [Read article]

Clutch performances vault UA into eighth place at NCAAs

Patience is a virtue; one that head coach Frank Busch and his Wildcat men's swimmers possess.

After a difficult dual meet season that ended with only one victory and a disappointing fifth place finish at the Pac-10 Championships, the Arizona swim team found itself with its lowest ranking of the year (16) as it entered the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. [Read article]

Gymcats finish sixth at Pac-10's

The women's gymnastics team moved up a spot in the NCAA regionals, thanks to a sixth place finish at the Pac-10 championships.

The No. 19 Gymcats (5-16, 2-10) finished sixth at the Pac-10 with a score of 195.950. The performance helped UA to the fourth spot in the South Central Region in Columbia, Mo. öö Arizona's 17th consecutive postseason appearance.

Head coach Bill Ryden said he likes the Gymcats' selection, where they match up against No. 1 UCLA, No. 12 Oregon State, No. 13 Iowa, host Missouri and Illinois-Chicago. [Read article]

UA track and field successfully defended its title in the Jim Click Shootout on Saturday in impressive fashion.

Arizona dominated the blustery afternoon, cruising to victory over squads from the University of Colorado and Cal State Los Angeles at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. The Wildcats' 350 points were more than enough to defeat Colorado, 229, and Cal State Los Angeles, 116. Arizona was able to fend off its tough competition with the help of several outstanding performances from its men's and women's squads. [Read article]

Golf leads way after day two

The Arizona men's golf team moved up to the top of the leaderboard after one of the most solid team performances of the year yesterday at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by the Wildcats.

The team's 10-under par 278 was the best of the tournament thus far by shots, and gave the team an eight-shot cushion heading into the final day.

"It was a good day and a good round," head coach Rick LaRose said. "We needed one because we stumbled a little bit yesterday." [Read article]
