Spring Service Week reveals the ease of community service

Five minutes is all it takes to make a difference in the community.

That is the message Project Volunteer members hope to convey in this year's Spring Service Week.

"The whole purpose of Spring Service Week is to provide five to 10 minute service projects for UA students who might not experience these things otherwise," said Greg Billings, director of Project Volunteer, a program run through the University Activities Board. [Read article]

Student protesters stage demonstration to illustrate their take on realities of war

A group staged a mass murder of sorts in the Student Union Memorial Center at noon yesterday, with at least 10 drenching themselves in a blood-like liquid and playing dead to demonstrate their opposition to the war.

Students in the group, named UA Peace Refuge, said the presentation, which was held among hundreds of students during the lunch hour, was to give students a first-hand account of who the group believes is the real suspect in the conflict. [Read article]

Political science junior gets hyped about Easter, but worries about stolen Cadbury Eggs

WILDCAT: So you still get an Easter basket?

KUCH: I do, well, they send it in the mail, so it's not much of a surprise.

WILDCAT: Well picture this; you're 12 years old, you're sitting there doing ÷ I don't know, painting Easter eggs ÷ then your dad comes out with a big box of Easter stuff and starts filling the baskets in. I was all, "I thought that was the Easter Bunny's job," and he was all, "I am the Easter bunny." How would you feel if that happened to you? [Read article]

Student millionaire

The State Hornet

California State University-Sacramento

For the average California State University at Sacramento student, a computer is a place to write a five-page paper about Aristotle, play Madden 2003 and download mp3s.

But for 23-year-old Sacramento State student Andrew Singletary, the computer is a place to operate his million-dollar Web hosting company, and that's just in his free time. [Read article]

Corrections

The headline for the P.O.W. story that ran yesterday incorrectly stated that Jessica Lynch was released by Iraq, but she was rescued by American troops.

The photo cutline in Tuesday's story, "Foreign students affected by war," wrongly identified two men as foreign students. Neither are international students and only one is a student. Furthermore, the men did not attend the vigil in support of the troops.

In Tuesday's story about Melissa Kinney, the headline "Memorial held for slain cheerleader," was incorrect. Kinney was not slain, she was killed in a car accident.
