A Tucson man was cited after an officer saw him drink from a 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor outside Babcock Residence Hall, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., Monday, reports stated.

A companion of the man was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail after dispatch informed police he had a Tucson Police warrant for failing to appear in court for criminal trespassing charges and for urinating in public, reports stated.

Both men were warned not to return to UA property.

Two UA employees reported a shoplifting incident to police Monday, reports stated.

Police responded to the Medical Bookstore, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., where a man had reportedly stolen a couple of textbooks.

Employees told police that the man approached the cashier with the books in his hands and asked if a CD came with them. When the employee reached to check, the man took off with the books, reports stated.

One of the employees chased the man into the parking lot, where he got in a red older-model Ford Mustang and drove off, reports stated.

Police issued an attempt to locate, ATL for the Mustang, and units circulated the area but did not find the suspect.

Threatening graffiti messages were found in a bathroom stall on the third level of the Student Union Memorial Center, 1303 E. University Blvd., Monday, reports stated.

The graffiti, written in blue ink, said, "I'm gonna rape your bitch tonite, today's date, Mon. 4/14/03, at the bookstore or? This is not a joke."

Police took pictures of the graffiti and filed them into evidence. They also briefed the on-duty bookstore manager of the message, reports stated.

After the store closed, a security officer escorted the last employee to her car in a campus garage, while officers patrolled the union on foot, reports stated.

Someone attempted to access a UA student's computer online Sunday and Monday, reports stated.

The student was using his computer from his residence at Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., reports stated. He provided police with IP addresses gathered by a tracking program on his computer.

He also told police he was going to meet with CCIT technicians to track the person(s) who tried to access his system, reports stated.

UA police arrested a Tucson man April 9 after they discovered his license and registration were suspended, reports stated.

An officer stopped the Nissan at North Park Avenue and East Lowell Street because its tags were expired, reports

stated.

The driver gave the officer an expired registration for a license plate that was not the one on the vehicle. The officer asked the man about the discrepancy and the man replied, "My girlfriend put it on because the other one was expired," reports stated.

The driver also initially gave the officer a false birth date. When he later provided his correct birth date, he reportedly said, "Well, sometimes that is what my birthday is."

He was arrested and taken to Pre-Trial Services.

The man's vehicle was secured at the scene and the license plate was taken into evidence.

Two workers suffered minor injuries after a fence at Spring Fling blew over Sunday, reports stated.

One of the men was reaching over the fence to hand the other man a radio when a gust of wind blew the fence over onto the other man, reports stated.

The man who had the fence fall on him suffered a twisted wrist and a small cut on his left hand. The other man had scratches on his shins from the base of the fence, reports stated.

Both men, who were Pima County Parks Police officers, were able to walk to the medical tent to have their injuries attended to, reports stated.

A Tucson man was arrested for outstanding warrants while visiting his girlfriend, a UA student, at Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., Monday, reports stated.

Police went to the apartments after someone reported the smell of burning marijuana coming from the room. The female student had no idea why the police were there and did not know of anyone in the room smoking marijuana, reports stated.

The student reportedly told police her boyfriend smoked marijuana from time to time, but hadn't that day.

Police did not observe any signs of marijuana use, such as red eyes, or an odor coming from their breath or clothing. But the man had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear on charges of marijuana possession, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and buying liquor for a minor, reports stated.

He was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail.
