UA swimmer and Olympic hopeful looks towards Athens after record-setting season

If UA sophomore swimming sensation Emily Mason continues on her current pace, she might need to look into buying a bigger trophy case.

Included among the Phoenix native's hardware collection is an Arizona High School record in the 400-yard Individual Medley, a world record in the Junior Olympics in 1998, a Junior National Championship in 1999, a United States National title in 2001 and medals from both the Pan Pacific Games and the Goodwill Games. UA water polo team uses weights to get a leg up on competition at high altitude

Former UNLV men's basketball head coach Jerry Tarkanian is known for once telling his Runnin' Rebels that the altitude in Wyoming didn't matter because the game would be played inside. The UA women's water polo team learned first hand that the opposite is true, particularly in water.

Every game the No. 12 Wildcats (9-3) played this year was in the high altitudes of Utah, Colorado or Northern Arizona. Entering a rebuilding year after losing four of his team's seven starters, Arizona head coach Jeff Whitmore decided to use weight belts, something no other team he knows of uses, to offset the limited oxygen UA found during games. Winter weather awaits 'Cats

When the Arizona baseball team gets off its plane tomorrow evening in Pullman, Wash., it might want to get right back on and come home.

While sunny skies and a predicted daytime high of 76 degrees are expected in Tucson during UA's series opener against Washington State tomorrow afternoon, the Wildcats and Cougars may have to lace on their snowshoes, not their cleats. [Read article]

Laxcats top USC, make postseason

After getting surprised by No. 24 University of California San Diego and suddenly fighting for its playoff life, the men's lacrosse team responded by beating USC 12-5.

The No. 8 Laxcats rebounded against the Trojans after going 1-5 since beating then-No. 4 BYU in Provo on the Cougars' Alumni Weekend. In the last two weeks the Laxcats have dropped from a likely No. 2 seed in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League South Division to fighting to be one of the four teams to make it. [Read article]
