Former Wildcats Bobby Wade and Lance Briggs to be teammates once again, this time with the Chicago Bears

Jason Johnson knows that he won't be competing for a starting spot with all-pro quarterback Drew Bledsoe this season, but the former UA signal-caller is just happy he's getting a shot to play in the NFL.

Johnson was taken as an undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills just minutes after the NFL draft ended yesterday. [Read article]

photo Baseball takes two of three from Stanford

The Arizona baseball team pulled to within one game of the Pacific-10 Conference lead after a historic road series victory over No. 4 Stanford with an 11-6 victory yesterday.

The 2-1 series win was Arizona's (30-16, 9-6 Pac-10) first against the Cardinal in a decade and marked the first time since the 1999 season that Stanford (28-13, 10-5) lost a series at home in the Sunken Diamond.

The Wildcat offense exploded for six unanswered runs in the last four innings to ice the rubber match of the series yesterday. Junior Moises Duran knocked in John Hardy with a sixth-inning double to break a 6-6 tie, and freshman Derek Decater returned the favor by driving in Hardy with a two-out single to push UA ahead by two. OSU gives softball big scare

Wildcats outlast pesky Beavers 6-4 in 11-inning marathon

Eleven innings, 3 hours and 15 minutes later, the No. 1 Arizona softball team (45-4) defeated Oregon State 6-4 yesterday.

Catcher Mackenzie Vandergeest said she wasn't nervous leaving behind the comfort of UA's Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium for what will be a seven-game road trip before Arizona returns home.

The UA junior blasted a two-run, two-out homerun to ensure the Wildcats' third victory of the weekend and second straight win over the Beavers. [Read article]

Women's golf runner-up at Pac-10 tourney

The women's golf team placed second at this weekend's Pac-10 Championship, ending a streak of three consecutive titles and dashing any hope of winning its seventh conference title, something no other program has ever accomplished.

The runner-up finish was mainly due to the Wildcats' inability to finish their round, something that has haunted them most of the year.

"I'm disappointed because we didn't finish well," head coach Greg Allen said. "We played the last five holes eight over par. A few girls got on the bogey train and couldn't get off." [Read article]

Women's tennis claims first Pacific-10 title in ten years

UA drops both doubles matches but still wins title

The UA women's tennis team claimed the Pac-10 title this weekend in California, accomplishing the feat for the first time in 10 years.

Arizona claimed the title, its first since 1993, by winning the most matches in the Pac-10 tournament held in conjunction with the Ojai Valley Tennis Championship in Ojai, Calif. The Wildcats were given the top honor despite dropping both of their doubles matches in the finals yesterday. The Pac-10 tourney is scored on an individual basis, and the trophy is awarded to the squad that wins the most matches. [Read article]

Men net mixed results at Pac-10 tennis tourney

Wildcats now await seeding for the NCAA tournament after tough time at the conference championships

The UA men's tennis team took to California this weekend, looking to claim a stake in the Pac-10 championship.

The Wildcats enjoyed moderate success during the four-day Pac-10 tournament that was played in conjunction with the 103rd annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament held in Ojai, Calif. Despite failing to advance past the semifinals in any of their matches, Arizona played well enough to earn themselves a fourth-place finish in the 10-member conference. [Read article]

Depth the key for UA men's golf

The UA men's golf team will tee it up today as the favorite at the Pac-10 Championships and will try to wrap up one of the most successful spring seasons in team history.

The only drawback this week is the emphasis on depth, as the Pac-10 Championships allow six players to play, taking the top five scores every day.

With the different scoring style and four rounds played in three days, this format makes the Pac-10 tournament one of the toughest in the country. [Read article]
