Nation's top golfer cleans up with three Pac-10 conference awards ... and she's just a freshman

When the women's golf team tapped in its last putts at the Pacific-10 conference Championship this weekend, taking home another title was out of reach, but for freshman Erica Blasberg, her reception of a piece of tin made the weekend memorable.

Blasberg received Pac-10 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, along with being named to the Pac-10 First Team, something that hasn't been uncommon for Wildcat golfers to dominate in the past. [Read article]

UA track and field enjoyed success in Iowa and San Diego this weekend, returning some familiar faces and adding some new ones to the already-potent lineup.

Arizona sent a full squad, minus its throwers, to the 94th annual running of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The throwers headed to San Diego to compete in the UCSD Triton Invitational.

The Wildcats put forth a strong effort, versus some of their toughest competition to date, despite not claiming any first place finishes. [Read article]

What is your two year plan?

What can you do in two years?

Or what have you done in two years?

Have you knocked out some general education credits, failed college algebra twice, gone on dozens of weekend fieldtrips for a worthless class that meets once a week?

Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, and when no results are yielded, it's time to start all over again with a new coach. [Read article]

Baseball swats Hornets on road

The Wildcat baseball team turned a bid for revenge into a record-breaking blowout yesterday with a 21-13 pounding of Sacramento State in the finale of an eight-game, 11-day road trip.

Arizona (31-16, 9-6 Pacific-10 Conference), which lost to the Hornets (28-19) in its last home game before the road trip, rallied for 12 runs in the final three frames to erase a three-run deficit and run away with a victory in its final non-conference game of the season. [Read article]

Men's golf in fourth at Pac-10 championships

The Arizona men's golf team opened the 2003 Pac-10 Men's Golf Championship by posting rounds at 13-over par and 7-over par yesterday to position itself in fourth place with 36 holes remaining in the three-day event. The Wildcats stand at 20-over-par after two rounds of play, trailing tournament leader UCLA by 14 shots.

UCLA, playing on its home course at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif., assumed the day one lead after posting two rounds better than any single round by the other teams in the field. Standing at 6-over par, the Bruins lead second-place Stanford by seven shots. Washington is third at 17-over-par, while Arizona and Arizona State round out the top five. [Read article]
