The beginning of the new school year is an exciting time at any university, but we have some special reasons to celebrate this year. After years of construction in a series of projects focused on the undergraduate experience, we have the transformation of our central campus nearly complete. In the heart of the mall we have (fully operational) the Integrated Learning Center, the Main Library expansion, the Student Union Memorial Center, and the Eddie Lynch Pavilion expansion of McKale Arena. The magnificent addition to the Gittings Dance Complex will be dedicated in the early fall, leaving the Meinel Optical Sciences expansion as the only unfinished new building on the mall. There remains only the construction of the Alumni Plaza to complete the rebirth of the most impressive central campus mall in America!
For both undergraduate and graduate students, we have also dramatically improved campus residence halls this year. Another new residence hall will open next year, and all of the older residence halls are scheduled for major renovations and renewal. The University of Arizona campus as a living and learning space is undergoing a complete transformation.

There will be challenges, of course, as there should be, but you'll find this campus to be very welcoming place and a suportive environment

Most of the construction scheduled for this campus during the next five years will focus on research laboratories, but these improvements also have a long-term value for every student who benefits over a lifetime from association with an increasingly distinguished national university.
Although new facilities are the most visible symbol of a successful university, the personal interactions that define the learning experience are actually more important. New members of our campus community are encouraged to embrace our open and friendly culture and to join the family. There will be challenges, of course, as there should be, but you'll find this campus to be a very welcoming place and a supportive environment.
Welcome to Wildcat Country.
