UA freshman volleyball player Kim Glass was rewarded for her efforts over the weekend yesterday by being named the Pacific 10 Player of the Week.
Glass becomes only the second freshman (Barb Bell 1993) and 17th player in UA history to earn the award.
"She is playing terrific right now," Arizona head coach David Rubio said. "She still has so much to learn and so much room to grow as a player. She is already great, but she can get even better."
Over the weekend, Glass scorched Pacific, St. Mary's and British Columbia for 50 kills en route to earning Tournament MVP.
Glass leads the Wildcats in kills (118), kills per game (4.37) hitting percentage (.317) and service aces (17) on the season.
Rubio said that Glass's effort displays her greatness on the court, but the team's effort is the main reason that Glass has had the success that she has.
Opposing defenses are already concerned with seniors Lisa Rutledge and Shannon Torregrosa, which has opened up the floor for Glass.
"She is a great player," Rubio said. "She deserves a lot of credit, but the award is an honor for the entire team and everyone deserves credit."
With the preseason behind them, Glass and the Wildcats' true season begins this weekend when they will host Pac-10 foes No. 2 USC and 11th ranked UCLA.
